Are the surprising 3-0 teams better than the "we knew they'd be there" 2-1 teams? Its hard to say. I'm just glad Chip Kelly isn't my boss. God forbid he made my do my job that I earn millions to do.

Policy Abuse

I wish I could be focusing on purely the football side of Week 1 in the new NFL season. I wish I could be talking about a fantastic Broncos-Colts game, a wild finish in Baltimore that wounded up going against my guys, a troubling second half in Miami for Brady and the Patriots, Tony Romo single-handedly losing to the 49ers and the impressive performances by teams like the Titans, Vikings, Bills and Jaguars. Instead, I'm heated by the video TMZ posted involving Ray Rice and his then-fiance Janay Palmer, this time inside of the elevator. It's more disturbing than ever, and it is imperative for Commissioner Goodell to finally do something about it.

Remember when Roy Halladay threw that no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds in the first postseason game he ever pitched in? What about when the New York Giants shocked the world and beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, giving New England their first and only loss of the season? Do you remember when we found out that Bruce Willis was dead all along in The Sixth Sense? Well guess who called all of these shocking moments in history. That's right, your's truly. That's why you need to follow this blog as I delve into the season, week by week and pick the winners of every single game this season. 

EDITOR'S NOTE: I have picked none of the surprises mentioned above. I had a gut feeling about the Patriots loss, but kept that hunch to myself. The Sixth Sense shocked me more than a lot of things in life, totally off guard.

Well, "Field Trip" certainly didn't end the way it began. Or did it? 

This week's episode of Mad Men taught us something about how quickly life can just be pulled out from under you and rearranged entirely against your plans for it. Do you think Don envisioned returning to SC&P with the reduced role that he took at the end? Do you think he envisioned his marriage ending on Megan's terms rather than his own? Do you think Betty saw herself clinging to her youngest child, desperate for them never to grow up and grow apart from her? And do you really think Peggy saw herself so miserable and still so consumed by the man who gave her a chance and held her back at the same time?

Spare Change: Mad Men Season 7 Week 2 Recap and Thoughts

Last night's Mad Men could be described as transcendent, to give our guy Johnny Depp some good PR. Joan is now an account "man", Pete wants out of Sterling Cooper but actually seems willing to do something about it now, a colored women can be seen from the window (until Cooper "requests" Joan change that), Peggy is just as lonely as Don and speaking of Don, he seems to come a long way in sixty minutes (as we have seen both positively and negatively in the majority of every single Mad Men episode ever). Maybe transcendent isn't the right word. Maybe the word I'm looking for is change. 

My Faith Story

I'm not sure what it is that is convicting me to write down my own personal faith story. I'm not sure why I feel the need to do so, let alone in my blog that I created for my sports and pop culture opinions, two things that mean dramatically less to me than my faith. Maybe that's it. I love to write and I love God. I love to voice my opinion through my writing and I love Jesus Christ. Maybe I should be asking myself what took me so long instead of why.
